About us

Paanik Hand & Research Center

Specialized, personalized, evidence-based care for the hand, wrist and upper limb. Hattigauda and Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.

A centre for the hand and upper limb

Paanik Hand & Research Center treats conditions of the hand, wrist, forearm and peripheral nerves. Evaluation, hand surgery and hand therapy are under one roof.

The hand is one of the most intricate parts of the body. A small injury can affect your work, your independence and your quality of life. Care here covers acute injuries and complex trauma, and nerve, tendon, joint and reconstructive conditions.

Treatment does not stop at the operation. The surgeons work with the centre’s hand therapists so that each patient goes through structured rehabilitation to a functional recovery.

The approach combines

  • Detailed clinical assessment
  • Evidence-based surgical treatment
  • Reconstructive and microsurgical techniques
  • Hand therapy and rehabilitation
  • Individualized patient care

What sets the centre apart

Surgeon, hand therapist and patient work as one team toward the best possible functional outcome. Success is judged by what the hand can do afterwards.

01

Specialist expertise

The surgeons work only in hand and reconstructive surgery of the upper limb.

A hand surgeon tests sensation in a patient's hand during a consultation.

02

Current surgical technique

Contemporary principles of hand, wrist and microsurgery, applied to each case.

A hand therapist guides an older patient through an exercise with therapy putty.

03

Measured by function

The goal is a return to work, independence and everyday activities.

Overview

Dr. Shrestha trained in hand and reconstructive microsurgery in Singapore and the United States. That training showed how few patients in Nepal could reach specialist hand care, and she has worked to close that gap ever since.

She is one of Nepal’s pioneering woman orthopaedic surgeons, and the first woman to lead the country’s largest orthopaedic department. She has performed more than 10,000 surgeries over 12+ years.
